For this year’s Super Bowl XLVII, Bud Light held a contest for fans to compete for a shot at reporting from the Bud Light “Blue Carpet” in New Orleans leading up to the big game. A chance to interview players, celebrities and fans alike. I decided to try out, as I thought I would have a good shot with my hosting/reporting/interviewing/sports background — and, of course, because of my roots in the Anheuser Busch capital of the world.
I usually am able to shoot stand-ups on my own, but I asked a friend to help set up the shot for me just to be safe. I thought that shooting it in front of the AB brewery would be a great way to show my creativity and dedication to the contest. Just when you think an easy stand-up will get you in and out of a project in minutes, think again. The sun can be a reporter and photographer’s worst nightmare. Whether it’s the lack of a beautifully lit sky, or in this case, too much sun. Every angle that I thought of in my head to shoot from with the infamous “Budweiser” brewery sign behind me proved insufficient with major back lighting. Needless to say, I think it turned out alright and that my delivery is improving still.
Unfortunately Bud Light did not choose me to be the 2013 Blue Carpet Corespondent, but I learned a little bit about battling the sun while I was at it. Cheers to Bud Light!
