Over the past month I have been training in the CrossFit introductory OnRamp program at BareHands CrossFit, and this week I have officially graduated!
I have heard about CrossFit for a little while now and jumped at the chance to try it out when a CrossFit gym opened up near me. After a month into it and still learning the ropes, I am in love. Fitness and health/wellness is very important to me as an athlete and a person. CrossFit completely embodies that lifestyle and you can tailor it to your needs and goals. Yes you can train in CrossFit to become an Olympic-like weightlifter, but you can also use it to tone and get in shape in ways that an elliptical just can’t provide.
In the course of one month I saw moms and young athletes alike learn a new and challenging program. I pushed myself alongside others that I wouldn’t have met, had it not been for CrossFit. We sat and cheered each other on in our WOD’s and put ourselves out there doing exercises we never thought we could. It was just amazing to see how CrossFit brings people together in a team-like atmosphere.
I would highly recommend CrossFit to anyone, no matter what your skill-set or athletic ability. As an athlete, I love how this program pushes me and brings out my competitive side — competing against myself to make myself better. My history as a gymnast and weight lifting in high school athletics is also exposed in this program — two things I always enjoyed but didn’t really know how to get back into.
I am excited for my new found fitness love and cannot wait to carry on into the next phase of CrossFit. Combining this with my daily Pilates routine, elliptical workouts, and my active lifestyle playing sand volleyball and golf, has made me feel better and healthier. I’m in the best shape I’ve been in since high school, my skin is clearer and more radiant and I am not getting sick or colds as often. It also makes you want to eat healthier; staying active makes you crave healthier foods. And why would you want to pour all of your hard work down the drain with an overly fatty meal? Since I have graduated college I have been determined to be active and stay in shape, not just for looks, but to create a lifestyle for myself that I want to maintain for the rest of my life. To make myself healthy for years to come.
So cheers to CrossFit, for pushing me one step further in my fitness lifestyle!
