I say it all the time, one of my favorite parts of being a reporter is telling people’s stories. Sometimes those stories give you goosebumps or send you on the verge of tears. In this case, happy tears.
I was so moved by the recognition WWII veteran and nurse Harriet McGuire received at a recent Blues game — and I was lucky enough to be covering it. The St. Louis Blues teamed up with First Bank and the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight this season to recognize the Greatest Generation once per month at a home game. Their efforts are due in part to raising awareness for the honor flight program and to give thanks to those that have sacrificed for our country.
It was so special to see the joy from her and her family as the Blues fans refused to sit down and stop clapping. The response was overwhelming. I am honored to have told her story in this article accompanying the video: http://www.foxsports.com/midwest/story/st-louis-blues-present-harriet-mcguire-a-veteran-of-the-greatest-generation-012015
