It is only fitting that I post my reel from this Missouri Valley Football Conference season the day that two of its teams make history — it is the first time in FCS history that two teams from the same conference compete for the national title.
My love for the Valley runs deep. I grew up going to Southern Illinois basketball games with my mom and family. Several of my family members went to SIU and my father is a graduate of SEMO. Saluki games are where I fell in love with sports and college basketball in particular. So to have the chance to work for the MVC means a lot to me.
It is so much fun to cover the sidelines for them during the football season. It makes me proud to say that Illinois State and North Dakota State are battling for the FCS title and have, thus, made it an All-MVC championship game. All roads lead to the Valley today.
Three years ago I had my first sideline gig for the Valley and of my career. I’ll never forget walking out of the UNI dome that very first game, knowing that this was what I was meant to do. I had a blast and it put a big smile on my face to have the opportunity to become a sideline reporter.
Although I had been a reporter for quite some time by then, it was my first time as the sideline reporter for a live televised game. It has been really special to work and grow with the Valley ever since.
