Once the TOUR returns from the Asia Swing, it wraps up the fall season in some pretty gorgeous spots not too far from our headquarters in Jacksonville, FL. So OF COURSE, I HAD to road trip-it up to Sea Island in GA, for the RSM Classic and down to Naples, FL, for the Franklin Templeton Shootout — both destinations were GORGEOUS!
Looking for a quaint Southern golf destination, with breathtaking ocean views? Then St. Simons Island is your place. I loved my time there for the RSM Classic and can totally see why several players make Sea Island Golf Club their home. A small town nestled on an island off the coast of southern Georgia, St. Simons Island’s lighthouses, mom-and-pop restaurants and cobblestone streets will win you over. But it was the unforgettable views from the golf course that will keep me coming back.
Yep, that is the view from the driving range at the Sea Island Golf Practice Center. Unreal.
Off the course and in town, there were plenty of fun, local restaurants — many within walking distance of the St. Simons Island lighthouse. But just across town there is a BBQ shack that you are guaranteed to visit more than once on your trip. The ribs at Southern Soul are fall-off the bone, melt in your mouth amazing and their fried Oreos aren’t too bad either 😉
I have a feeling that won’t be my last trip to St. Simons Island — I joked all week that I had found where I was going to retire. Loved it!
With Sea Island only being an hour and a half from Jax, the drive down to Naples was more of a road trip — clocking in at a little over 5 hours. But it was worth it! I was honored to help host the Franklin Templeton Shootout Pro-am Pairings Party with the great Greg Norman at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort.
Not only was it an enormous opportunity to work with The Shark and Hall of Famer at his own tournament, but the resort was fabulous, Naples was gorgeous, the weather was fantastic and even warmer than winter-time in Northeast Florida.
The following day after the party, we headed down to 3rd Street South, where I discovered an awesome new brand — Island Company, visited the Naples Pier and went on a drive down Gordon Dr. — where some of the most expansive beach houses in Florida reside.
It was fun and definitely a place we can escape to if in need of some summer beach weather during the winter months.
What a season it has been for me on the PGA TOUR! Pretty exciting to have begun my first full wrap-around season and I cannot wait to see what 2017 will bring!
Next stop: home for the holidays!
